Nayarit's coast, sold as the Riviera Nayarit, runs north from Nuevo Vallarta and Bucerías, just across the state line from Puerto Vallarta. Punta de Mita has the big resorts, Sayulita and San Pancho are the surf towns, and further north San Blas has mangroves and famously hungry sandflies. Humpback whales winter in Banderas Bay, roughly December to March.
