Sonora's coast is on the Sea of Cortez, where the desert runs straight into the water. Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point) is about an hour from the Arizona border and busy with American visitors; San Carlos, near Guaymas, has a marina and rocky bays; Bahía de Kino is a quieter fishing town facing Isla Tiburón. Summers are very hot, so most trips run October to April.
