Michoacán has about 200 km of Pacific coast and very little built on it. The beaches are surf breaks and turtle-nesting sand, like La Ticla, Maruata and Caleta de Campos, strung along Highway 200 with few hotels in between. Inland, Morelia, Pátzcuaro and the monarch butterfly sanctuaries (November to March) are the better-known trips. Check current travel advisories before you drive the coast road.
