Chiapas has Mexico's southernmost stretch of Pacific coast, running down to the Guatemalan border. The beaches, like Puerto Arista and Boca del Cielo, are long, dark-sand and little developed, and the surf can be strong. Most visitors to Chiapas head inland instead, to San Cristóbal de las Casas, Palenque and the Sumidero Canyon.
