Cheap beaches in Mexico
You don't need Cancún money for a beach trip. Go where Mexican families holiday, eat where the locals eat and skip December–April if you can. These places usually cost less than the big resort strips.

Sleeping and getting around
- Travel outside December–April and Easter week. Rooms are noticeably cheaper.
- Stay in town rather than on the resort strip, and walk to the beach.
- Take ADO buses between towns and colectivos (shared vans) along the coast instead of private shuttles.
- Look at flights into nearby airports as well as the obvious one.
Eating and doing
- Eat at fondas and taco stands. The comida corrida, a set lunch, is the best deal going.
- Buy water and snacks at a corner shop, not from beach vendors.
- Beaches in Mexico are public by law, though reaching some means walking through a hotel or a beach club.
- Bring your own snorkel and swim from shore where it's calm.
