Campamento Tortuguero is a dedicated community project committed to the protection and conservation of endangered sea turtles and their nesting habitats on the beaches of Sayulita, Mexico. Established over a decade ago, the camp operates as a voluntary organization, relying heavily on volunteer support and donations. They primarily focus on relocating turtle nests to safer locations, educating both locals and tourists, and combating poaching. Visitors can participate in nightly beach patrols, nest relocation, and witness the incredible release of newly hatched turtles into the ocean. A donation program allows individuals to ‘adopt’ a turtle nest, directly contributing to the camp’s operations. Located at the end of Calle Pelicanos, it’s easily accessible from the beach. The camp is entirely dependent on volunteers and interns, offering programs ranging from 2 to 4 weeks for those passionate about wildlife conservation. With a strong emphasis on environmental stewardship, Campamento Tortuguero provides a unique opportunity to contribute to the preservation of these magnificent creatures.
